hamsaa Kaarthik
doctoral student in clinical Psychology
supervised by Kelleigh Head, PsyD
I am a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School, and I am passionate about helping people better understand themselves and work toward their overall well-being. I believe that having a space where someone feels comfortable, heard, and not judged can be an important part of that process. I am particularly interested in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. My clinical interests include anxiety, depression and other mood concerns, trauma, ADHD, learning difficulties, grief and adjustment, relationship and attachment concerns, and working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
As a clinician, I hope to create a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment while also providing structure and practical tools when they are helpful. I am interested in using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and develop skills that work for them.
I am a huge cat lover and enjoy art and other creative activities. I am looking forward to continuing to learn, grow, and gain experience while getting to know and support the people I work with.

“We don’t hear much about how painful it is to go from being completely stuck to becoming unstuck. The process of becoming unstuck requires tremendous bravery, because basically we are completely changing our way of perceiving reality, like changing our DNA. We are undoing a pattern that is just not our pattern. It’s the human pattern.”
